Karen Anne Court
Born in Australia, Karen spent her childhood and teen years training as a classical pianist at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. At the age of twelve she began work as a pianist for the local ballet school, and as a teenager, continued to refine her performance skills almost every weekend by performing at the many clubs, restaurants and piano bars in Sydney.
In 2003 Karen penned, starred and produced an original stage musical, Wishin’ and Hopin’, depicting the life and music of Dusty Springfield, which toured the regional clubs throughout Australia. It was this production that inspired her to incorporate theatre into her club and concert performances.
A few years later, Karen left Australia and headed to Germany, settling in Berlin, where she performed regularly as a cabaret artist and pianist with various ensembles in Berlin. Her lifelong love of George Gershwin’s music inspired her to include a theatrical interpretation of Rhapsody in Blue into her performances. However, she soon realised that the extraordinary story behind this world-class masterpiece was worthy of much more than the 20 minutes it takes to perform. The seed for Rhapsody in Blue the Stage Musical was planted, and so began an eight year journey of research and writing as she uncovered the truths behind Gershwin's most loved and controversial score.
Karen currently resides in London with her husband and their Westie puppy Bouncer.
